SCERT Kerala has introduced a new English textbook for Class 10 (SSLC) students starting from the 2025–26 academic year. This revised English Reader features a modern and engaging approach to language learning, with stories, speeches, and poems from globally acclaimed writers and inspiring real-life figures. To support students, we offer free study resources, including chapter-wise notes, grammar exercises, textbook question answers, discourse samples, and more. These materials are aligned with the new curriculum and designed to boost comprehension, creativity, and confidence in English.
The Kerala Reader English Part I – Standard X (2025 edition), published by SCERT Kerala, is a thoughtfully curated textbook designed to cultivate language proficiency, critical thinking, creativity, and empathy in secondary-level students. Divided into three thematic units, the book presents a diverse mix of literary genres, including short stories, survivor testimonies, dramatic speeches, life writings, interviews, poems, and songs.
- Unit I: Trials and Triumphs explores human resilience through stories like A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, In the Attic by Wladyslaw Szpilman, and Shakespeare’s iconic speech “Friends, Romans, Countrymen…”.
- Unit II: Paths to Progress highlights social transformation and personal perseverance with pieces like Breaking Barriers, I Will Fly by Srikanth Bolla and A Phoenix Rises adapted from Twinkle Khanna, along with the inspirational poem The Seedling by Paul Laurence Dunbar.
- Unit III: The Trumpets of Change raises awareness on social issues through texts such as Another Day in Paradise (song), War, and A Piece of String.
Each unit is complemented by interactive activities—such as writing tasks, debates, creative reflections, vocabulary building, and grammar applications—that reinforce learning outcomes. The textbook concludes with a comprehensive worksheet section to assess language skills and comprehension
