History, Art and Science; Anthropology, including Archaeology; Astrophysics
and Astronomy; Earth Sciences and Paleobiology; Ecology, Behavioral
and environmental Sciences, including an emphasis on the tropics,
Evolutionary and Systematic Biology; History of Science and Technology;
History of Art, especially American, Contemporary, African, and
Asian Art, twentieth-century American Crafts, and Decorative Arts.
Level: senior post-doctoral,
pre-doctoral or post-doctoral, graduate level.
Duration:
Three to twelve months (senior post-doctoral appointments); six
to twelve months (pre-doctoral or post-doctoral); ten week (graduate
students).
Eligibility:
Nationals of all countries having either substantially completed
doctoral requirements or received their doctorate in the last seven
years; graduates students wishing to conduct individual research
under staff supervision.
Value:
$25,000
(senior and post-doctoral) and $14,000 (pre-doctoral) per year,
plus allowances including candidate's return trip to smithsonian
facility; $3,000 (graduate students); renewable. to support independent
research in residence at the Smithsomian.The Institute's facilities
are also open to scholars and scientists interested in limited appointment
without financial support.
