Applications are invited for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering – GATE 2018, the primary qualification test for Master’s and Doctoral studies in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science with Indian Government MHRD GATE Scholarships and Assistantships. The GATE score is also used for recruitment purposes by some PSU’s like Powergrid, Bharat Petroleum, ONGC, NTPC etc.

Pattern and Marking Scheme of GATE 2018
- Total number of Questions : 65
- Total Marks: 100
Question pattern in AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PE, PI, TF and XE
- General Aptitude: 10 Questions carrying 15 Marks
- Engineering Mathematics: 15 Marks
- Core subject Questions : 70 Marks
Question pattern in AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL
- General Aptitude: 10 Questions carrying 15 Marks
- Core subject Questions : 85 Marks
Type of Questions
GATE 2018 Exam will have two types of questions
-
Multiple Choice Questions: MCQ’s carrying 1 or 2 marks, candidates need to mark the correct answer from the given 4 choices.

Numerical Answer Questions: the answer is a real number, to be entered by the candidate using the virtual keypad. No choices will be shown, questions will carry 1 or 2 marks.
Negative Marking scheme
For 1-mark multiple choice questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-mark multiple choice questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. However, there is no negative marking for a wrong answer in numerical answer type questions.
