AISECT signs MoU with ALISON to offer free e-learning platform for vocational courses
#1
In a major boost to the permeation of digital literacy and e-learning in India, leading skill-based education and training provider AISECT has announced a partnership with Ireland based ALISON, which is one of the leading MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) service providers implementing free certified learning model across the world.

Under the partnership, ALISON has collaborated exclusively with AISECT in India in order to provide a free e-learning platform to students, offering vocational courses of international standards which are not currently available as a scalable, cost-effective model in the country. The courses, which will be powered by the internationally acclaimed ALISON syllabus, will be free-of-cost. The courses are open to all students across the country. ALISON’s courses are also designed to develop entrepreneurial skills in its graduates, and look to utilise the popularity of English and different business courses in India as an opportunity to inculcate entrepreneurial spirit in the Indian job seekers and boost the economic scenario.

Discussing the partnership and the immense potential of MOOC mode of education in India, Mike Feerick, the Founder CEO of ALISON stated that “ALISON’s focus is on practical work place skills training helping people upskill in order to secure well paid employment. India is a perfect market for what ALISON provides. The real need is not to get everyone to PhD level. It is about bringing people with manual and basic workplace skills up to the skill level of the modern worker. It is about teaching them better business English and business skills to enable them to communicate better at home and abroad, it’s about teaching them office productivity tools so they can harness the power of technology. When the masses within the Indian workforce upskill, you will finally see India awake as one of the economic powerhouses of the world”.

The partnership will look to explore potential opportunities in the online learning and skills education space that would seek to empower students and professionals with the technical know-how to improve their vocational skills. AISECT, which is India’s leading education, skill development, services and e-governance network, has a rich experience of 30 years in the rural and semi-urban areas and has an unparalleled network of 20,000 centres spread across 27 states and 3 Union Territories, whereas ALISON is a global leader and pioneer in the provision of free online learning for the workplace with 5 million learners and 600,000 graduates worldwide. Currently, more than 5 lakh Indian students are registered with ALISON.

Speaking about the collaboration, AISECT’s Director Mr. Abhishek Pandit said, “We have been dedicated to skill development and vocational education since our inception. This partnership will allow us to integrate our extensive network and resources with ALISON’s proficiency in open and distance learning to build ‘hands-on’ skills to bridge the demand-supply gap of skilled individuals in the country. This move will immensely benefit Indian students as they will have access to international quality course content, which is not extensively provided in India at the moment.”
