A group of academics demand 'Indianisation of education'
Dec 3: New Delhi: A meeting on education organized by Vidya Bharathi, a pro-RSS organization, called for ``Indianising'' the country's education system. The curriculum should focus on nationalism and the ancient systems of medicine and other sciences.
During the two-day deliberations 12 vice-chancellors, 10 pro vice-chancellors and several academics participated. Several resolutions were passed demanding that the paradigm shift in country's education policy for ``nationalist aspirations''.
The programme expressed its resentment on ignoring India's cultural heritage. The Vidya Bharati general secretary Deena Nath Batra later said to press persons the participants had agreed that research should be need-based and that restoration of ancient heritage should receive priority.
Supporting the steps taken by the Centre to protect India's heritage, the conference demanded that an initiative should be taken to preserve the country's tradition and ancient wisdom.
The deliberation criticicized the political forces opposing the reconstruction and review of the education system for their petty political interest.
