NCERT on a face saving ride.
Following a walkout of education ministers from the Annual General Meeting on Sunday NCERT provided a detailed list of consultations in the preparation of the new curriculum, really in a defending mode to save its face. The ministers staged a walkout to register their protest against the new curriculum that is really misleading the Nation, Parliament and even the Supreme Court - in their view.
The List of seminars and workshops as cited by NCERT failed to address the real issue raised by the ministers. The press release issued by NCERT even does not make any mention about the approval of National Curriculum Framework for School Education by the AGM.
The ignorance of such large scale consultations are "unfortunate" NCERT officials described about the incident. Reacting to the media coverage Director J.S. Rajput, claimed all such contentions are "misleading and untenable." According to him NCERT merely engaged in the modernisation of the syllabus which was prepared in 1988, and all the allegations are intended to malign their "honest and professional attempt."
