NAAC seeks State Government's Co-operation to ensure the quality of higher education.

National and Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) prepared an action plan for performance evaluation, accreditation and quality up gradation of colleges and universities. It envisages a positive role of state governments in the accreditation process. A meeting of higher education secretaries of all the states convened for drawing up an action plan, and it recommended the active participation of state governments in the assessment, accreditation and quality sustenance process, since cumulative effect of NAAC's assessment will influence state governments to upgrade the quality of institutions.

According to the plan NAAC's comprehensive technical report about an institution will be presented to UGC and other government funding agencies and will be used as a base for matters relating to governance, new courses and grants and NAAC accreditation with a suitable grade may be made a pre-requisite for granting autonomous status

NAAC is planning to organise various programmes to create general awareness about the advantages of accreditation with the participation of state governments
