Syndicate bringing the Matron back.

Notwithstanding the findings of the committees constituted for inquiry, The Cochin University syndicate has decided to reinstate the service of the Hostel Matron M. Ambujam, who was suspended in December 2000 following allegations.

Earlier, the university had appointed Justice John Mathew commission to inquire into the allegations against the Matron, which includes forcing the inmates of the hostel to attend certain seminars of Network Marketing Companies and financial irregularities. The Kerala High Court also appointed the Assistant Inspector General of Police to investigate the charges against the Matron. The National Women's Commission conducted a sitting here and the report was also against her.

The Matron was denied the charges on the ground that she only tried to enforce the hostel regulations strictly, and the inmates who were not willing to co-operate are behind the allegations. However the syndicate also decided to demote her to Assistant Gr.II on certain adverse findings by the commission relating to financial misconduct.
