SEED Delhi Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme (WOS-B) – 2011

Applications are invited for Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme (WOS-B) – 2011 of Department of Science & Technology, (SEED), New Delhi.

Objectives

a. Provide an opportunity for women scientists to re-enter into active research after a break in career, through support for S&T based R&D projects addressing the needs of people in unorganized urban or rural areas and

b. Provide an opportunity for S&T capacity building of women on issues relevant in societal programmes. Project Proposals For

a. Research, development and adaptation of technology to improve the quality of life and provide additional opportunities for income generation in rural areas or urban slums.

b. Adaptation & transfer of an innovative technology developed at laboratory level to field.

c. Capacity building of applicant in technology areas relevant to the needs in rural areas.

Nature of Support

Support will include a scholarship grant as per the current norms of WOS-B for a period of two years. Grant for minor equipment, consumables, contingencies, travel and overheads will also be considered if found necessary under the work plan.

Who Can Apply -

Women scientist

1. Who are Indian nationals living in India,

2. Who have break in career after the last degree received for at least three years, Who

are currently not employed in permanent position,

3. Whose age is below 60 years at the time of applying.

4. Who possess one of the following qualifications

5. Ph.D. or masters degree in science OR

6. Bachelors/ master’s degree in engineering / technology, architecture, medicine / pharmacy / Veterinary

Other Requirements

a. The project proposal must show an active association with a field agency in regard to implementation of the project irrespective of the fact whether the candidate is attached to an educational institution or R&D institution or any other agency. A letter to that effect from field agency is required.

b. A certificate from the host institution, for extending infrastructural or administrative support for the project must be enclosed with the application. Similarly, a certificate from the identified field agency showing the agreement to get associated with the project is also required.

c. If the proposal includes pre-clinical study on animals or clinical trials on humans, necessary ethical clearance following ICMR/ CPCSEA guidelines must be sought.

Who Are Not Eligible

a. Candidate already having a permanent job or fellowship will not be considered.

b. Candidates who are already registered for Ph.D are not eligible as this is not a Ph.D

fellowship.

Duration of Fellowship:

The scholarship will be given initially for duration of two years. The period may be extended to the third year in exceptional cases, if recommended by Experts during periodic reviews.

Selection Mechanism:

A Committee of Experts will be involved in the selection process. The two-tier selection process will be adopted involving initial screening and subsequent individual presentation by the screened-in candidates before a group of Experts.

IISc SID Bangalore DBT-Post Doctoral Fellowship 2011

Society for Innovation and Development, IISc, Bangalore, invites applications for DBT-Post Doctoral Programme. The purpose of the fellowship programme is to train scientists in frontier areas of research in Biotechnology at such institutions in India which are engaged in major biotechnological research activities.

Eligibility

The applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Science, Engineering or M.D. or M.S. degree in any area of medicine with research interests in Biotechnology and Life Sciences and a good academic record. Those who have already submitted the Ph.D./M.D./M.S., thesis are also eligible to apply. The applicants should preferably be below the age of 40 years, and 45 years in case of women candidates. Persons already employed are also eligible to apply. However, their applications should be routed through their employers.

Period of Fellowship

The fellowship is awarded for a period of two years.

Number of Fellowships

Up to 75 Fellowships would be awarded every year.

Details of the Award

The Postdoctoral fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 2 years. In exceptional cases, depending upon the progress of the research, the fellowship may be extended upto 5 years. Each fellow would be entitled to a stipend in the range of Rs. 16,000 – 18,000 per month and a research contingency grant of Rs. 50,000 per year, payable to the host institution. Candidates who are yet to be awarded the Ph.D./M.D./M.S degree, if selected, will be paid Rs. 15,000/- per month till the award of the degree. The fellows would also be entitled to HRA and other benefits as per the DST guidelines applicable to research fellowship/associateships. The fellowships cannot be availed at the same institution where the candidates have earned their Ph.D./M.D. degree.

Mode of Application

Candidates may submit their application on plain paper along with bio-data, list of publications (attach reprints of 2 important papers), copies of certificates (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D./M.D.), one page synopsis of Ph.D./M.D. thesis, 2 letters of recommendation (academic). The applicant is advised to propose his/her place of work, name of the supervisor, enclose one page synopsis of proposed research which must be compatible with the on-going research of the proposed supervisor, and his/her consent, for availing the fellowship. They should also enclose a declaration stating that if selected for the fellowship, he/she will complete the tenure of the fellowship. However, they may be allowed to relinquish the fellowship only if accepting permanent employment in India. Those who had applied previously need not apply.

Mode of Selection

The candidates will be selected based on their C.V. and performance in the interview. The interview will be held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, during May 2010, and candidates called for interview will be paid II class railway (non-AC)/bus fare by the shortest route from their home town. If the candidate accepts the fellowship, he/she must join the host Institution/University within a month’s time.
