Eligibility
Candidates who possess Bachelor’s degree in the respective or allied branch of Engineering/Technology, as specified in the prospectus, with at least 60% marks [open] and 55 %[reserved category] will be eligible for admission to respective program.

The condition of minimum percentage of marks may be waived for those candidates who are teachers either in Engineering Colleges/Polytechnics or in Government Departments, and joined before 28.02.1989, provided they are eligible for admission to that program as per University rules

The candidates must have minimum of two years of full time work experience in a registered firm/company/industry/educational and/or research institute/any Government Department or Government Autonomous Organization in the relevant field in which admission is being sought.

Admission Procedure: 

Candidates will be considered for admission on merit, based on total marks secured, out of 100 as indicated below: -
A. Entrance Test Maximum 70 Marks
B. Interview / Viva- voce Maximum 30 Marks
Total performance 100 Marks
However, depending on number of candidates and seats available, the respective department may exercise suitable cut off for candidates to be short listed for interview. Thus, all candidates appearing for entrance test may not be called for the interview.

Eligibility Criteria for MCA and M.Tech admissions through VITMEE 2009

? Candidates should have graduated with a full-time degree from any recognized University with a minimum aggregate of 60% for MCA and 50% for M.Tech. degree programmes.
? Consistent Record in X Std. and XII Std. is required.
? Candidates appearing for their final degree exam / final semester exam in the current year are also eligible to apply.
? Candidates should have completed their final Semester/year exams before the selection interview at VIT University.
? It is compulsory for candidates selected to produce their final year marks’ statement and Provisional degree certificate before August 15th, failing which, their admission will stand cancelled.

Several Scholarships and Assistantships for qualified students

100% tuition fee waiver to GATE top scorers. In addition, a total sum of Rs,l,68,000/- will be awarded a stipend (paid on monthly basis) for 2 years.

A total sum of Rs.1,70,000/- will be paid as stipend and contingency (monthly and annual basis) for candidates with high GATE scores for M.Tech. Nanotechnology under the DST-Nanotechnology initiative programme.

A stipend of 4800 Euros (Approx. Rs.2.5 lakhs) will be paid during the second year of study at UAS Karlsruhe, Germany (under DAAD fellowship) for M.Tech. Sensor System Technology. This is given to the top GATE or VITMEE scorers.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR M.Tech. and M.Sc COURSES at NIT Durgapur 

1. (a) The procedure of selection for admission to M. Tech. Courses are as follows:
(i) Only GATE qualified candidates are eligible to be admitted to Full-Time M. Tech. Courses. However, Non-GATE candidates may be considered for admission strictly on the basis of merit through a Written Test followed by Viva-voce subject to the availability of seats due to non-availability of GATE qualified candidates.

(ii) Full-Time GATE qualified candidates: 70% weightage on GATE Score and 30% weightage on Viva-voce. GATE qualified candidates for admission to Full-Time courses are required to appear for a Viva-voce at the specified date and time ( to be notified letter on) in respective Departments in NIT, Durgapur.

(iii) Full Time Non-GATE, Full-Time Sponsored and Part Time candidates: 30% weightage on Written Test, 40% weightage on Viva-voce and 30% weightage on Percentage of Marks / CGPA obtained in qualifying examination.

iv) Sponsored candidates must have a minimum of two years Full-Time work experience in a registered Firm/ Company /Industry /Educational or Research Institutions/ any Government Autonomous Organizations in the relevant field in which admission is being sought.
A letter from the Employer must be furnished along with the application form stating that the candidate is being sponsored to get admission. The Employer should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway till the completion of the course and will not claim for job through NIT Campus interview.

v) A No Objection Certificate from the Employer is essential for Admission to M.Tech. Programme of a Part-time candidate and their working place must be within 15 km from NIT, Durgapur.

The selection for M.Sc. programme in Physics/ Chemistry is based on 50% weightage on written test, 30% weightage on the Hons./ concerned subject marks and 20% weightage on viva-voce.
