Applications are invited for admission to M Phil Degree courses (Full-Time / Part-Time) in the following Colleges affiliated to this University, for the year 2009-2010.

Eligibility Condition for Admission:
Full Time (One year): A Master’s degree in the concerned subject of the University of Madras or any other University recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto, provided that those who have qualified for the Master’s degree prior to 1st January 1991 must have secured a minimum of 50 percent of marks and those who have qualified for the master’s degree on or after 1st January 1991 must have secured a minimum of 55 percent of marks. For SC/ST. Physically Handicapped & Visually Challenged candidates who have qualified on or after 1″ January 1991 a concession of 5 percent of marks shall be given in the minimum eligibility marks.


Part Time (Two years): 
(i) Teachers working in the University departments /
(ii) Teachers working in Affiliated colleges whose qualifications are approved by the University /
(iii) Non-teacher candidates are eligible to do M.Phil. Part-time degree course /
(iv) Teachers of Polytechnics approved by the Director of the Technical Education or Teachers of Higher Secondary and High Schools approved either by State Board or Central Board of Secondary Education or Educational Instructors of IAF (within the Madras University area) are eligible for Part Time M.Phil for admission, provided if they have secured 55% of marks in their Master’s degree obtained on or after 1.1 91 and no minimum marks is prescribed in their Master’s degree obtained pnor to 1.1.91.

For SC’ST, Physically Handicapped & Visually Challenged candidates who have qualified on or after 1st January 1991 a concession of 5 percent of marks shall be given in the minimum eligibility marks.

Conditions for Selection
1.There will be an Entrance Examination for admission to Full time M.Phil, course conducted by the respective colleges. There will be no Entrance Examination for Part Time M.Phil. Degree Selection.

2. The Entrance Examination will be held after the publication of P.G. Results and the candidates should have to take the examination only in the subject for which he/she has applied for admission and not in the qualifying subject

3 The Entrance Examination will be for 50 marks The remaining 50 marks is for the qualifying examination in the subject concerned.

B. DOCTORAL PROGRAMMES LEADING TO Ph.D. IN ALL DISCIPLINES at BITS Pilani
Input Qualification:
Any Higher Degree of BITS or its equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate in the qualifying examination. Any applicant with qualification equivalent to integrated first degree of BITS will be first examined for suitability to one of the higher degree programmes of the Institute. Such candidates may first be admitted to the M.E/M.Phil programmes offered by the Institute subject to the eligibility conditions.

Employed professionals working in Industries and R&D Organizations and having long experience and proven competence aspiring for Ph.D. programme will be considered under the Ph.D. Aspirants’ scheme and will be allowed to pursue their research at their own locations of work. Candidates holding any of the BITS degree or working in an organization collaborating with BITS will normally be considered under this scheme. Industries interested in the scheme for the development of their manpower at the doctoral level are invited to seek collaboration with BITS and sponsor their suitable candidates along with their applications in the prescribed format.

Note: 
(i) Admissions to Higher Degree Programmes are based on the performance of the candidates in the computer based online test and/or written test, group discussions and interviews conducted by BITS. The details of test, syllabus for the test and admissions modality are available at the BITS website, www.bitsadmission.com/hd/
The online tests will be held during 12th – 13th June 2009 at planned centers in Bangalore, Chennai, Goa, Noida, Hyderabad, Kolkatta, Nagpur & Pilani subject to a certain minimum number of candidates opting for each center. Based on test performance candidates will be short listed and asked to come to Pilani/Goa/Hyderabad on 27th July 2009 for interviews/written test/Group Discussion at their own cost.

(iii) For the Ph.D. Programmes short listed candidates will be asked to come to Pilani for test and interview at their own cost.

(iii)ASSISTANTSHIPS FOR TEACHING CAREER: 
Applicants for admission to the higher degree and Ph.D. programmes will also be considered for financial assistance in the form of Teaching/Project/Research Assistantships. Such selected candidates will be required to participate in teaching and other developmental programme of the institute under the guidance of a mentor.

6. M.S. Quality Management: 
This Four-Semester programme conducted in collaboration with Indian Institute of Quality Management (IIQM), Jaipur has plans for mandatory intensive contact sessions for two weeks during each of the first two semesters of the programme, at Bangalore / Chennai / Jaipur / Pune. Input requirements: Employed professionals holding an Integrated First Degree of BITS or equivalent such as B.E. / M.Sc. with minimum one year relevant experience in Quality and allied services.

7. M.S. Consultancy Management: 
This Four-Semester programme conducted in collaboration with Consultancy Development Centre (CDC), New Delhi has plans for mandatory intensive contact sessions on certain Saturdays and Sundays during each of the first two semesters of the programme, at Ahmedabad / Bangalore / Chennai / Delhi / Hyderabad / Kolkata / Mumbai / Pune. Input requirements: Employed professionals holding an Integrated First Degree of BITS or equivalent such as B.E. / M.Sc. with minimum one year relevant experience in Consultancy and allied services. 8. M.S. Medical Laboratory Technology: 
This Six- Semester programme is conducted at Chennai in collaboration with Sankara Nethralaya – Medical Research Foundation. Input requirements: B.Sc. in experimental sciences with exposure to Biology and Chemistry, or equivalent.

9. M.Phil. Optometry: 
This Four-Semester programme is conducted at Chennai in collaboration with Sankara Nethralaya – Medical Research Foundation. Input requirements: B.S. Optometry of BITS or equivalent.

10. M.Phil. Hospital and Health Systems Management: 
This Four-Semester programme conducted in collaboration with Bombay Hospital, Mumbai / Indore and Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore has mandatory intensive contact sessions for four weeks during each of the first two semesters of the programme, at Vellore / Mumbai / Indore. Input requirements: Employed professionals holding MBBS degree or its equivalent or an Integrated First Degree of BITS or equivalent such as B.E. / M.Sc. with minimum one year relevant work experience in well-established healthcare organizations.

The offering of any of the programmes / centres for contact sessions is subject to availability of viable number of suitable candidates. Application Procedure for BITS Pilani – Off-Campus Work-integrated Learning Programmes

Application form and programme details can be downloaded from the BITS Web Site (http://www.bits-pilani.ac.in/dlp-home). Duly completed application form is to be submitted alongwith requisite processing fee of Rs. 1000/- (Non-refundable) in the form of a crossed Demand Draft drawn in favour of Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani payable at State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, Pilani (Code: 10398) or UCO Bank, Vidya Vihar, Pilani (Code: 0150) or State Bank of India, Pilani (Code: 11309) or or ICICI Bank Jhunjhunu (Branch Code 0799). In case of Demand Draft payable at any other bank (at Jaipur), a Demand Draft for Rs. 1100/-, should be submitted
