Students raid evening daily's office In Rajahmundry

Over 2,000 students and staff of the Sri Kandukuri Rajya Lakshmi College for Women staged a demonstration in front of the office of Telugu daily Sandhya, alleging that one of its reports amounted to 'character assassination' of their institution. The protesters broke the glass panes of windows and forced the editor to walk to their college and apologise for the report. They burned the copies of the newspaper and compelled the editor to disclose the source of the news item. The students blocked roads and forced the editor to give a categorical assurance that the evening daily would carry a clarifying report. The editor threatened to sit on a hunger strike on campus and police were eventually called. Sub-inspector Murali Krishna rushed to the college to provide security to the editor. The college students union president Parvathi alleged that the newspaper report tended to scandalise the whole institution. Principal of the college said that the report was totally baseless.
