BANGALORE, Aug 16: Government of Karnataka can always proud of the fundamental and radical reforms in the power sector it has initiated through Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL). It also to convince the defaulting consumers to pay for power besides curbing power theft.

With this view KPTCL today tied up with students of National Service Scheme. The focus will be on energy conservation. Four electricity supply companies are also participating in the programme. NSS volunteers will be given orientation programmes on power reforms and related issues to enable them for further dissemination in their area of operation. These students will also create awareness among people about the safety aspects, the procedures for getting new connection and the importance of electricity meter. For this purpose surveys in villages, offices, schools etc will be done. Expressing happiness over the programme, Dr A Ravindra asked the students to follow energy conservation in their houses and schools/colleges before setting out on their campaign and emphasized that it should be an agenda of college association. KPTCL Managing Director V P Baligar suggested that the NSS camps, should also have power-related programmes like creating awareness against power theft.
