'Green School' started its operations ten miles
away from Dehra Dun, in a small obscure village.
The new school is called the `Bija Vidyapeeth'.
This is the country's forest school established
with a specific curriculum for sustainable
development with international outlook.
The new course will help to resolve human-nature or man-animal conflicts, Dr Vandana Siva said, who took initiative for the course. She is also the director of the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology.

The institution is an attempt to restore the art of sustainable living through an experiment in international living, where people of all cultures live, cook, eat and learn together the inestimable value of diversity and organic living,

The school will offer three-week courses to a maximum of 25 students from all over the world.

The monthly modules for study include, Gandhi and Globalization, Sustainable cities, Organic farming, and holistic science.

The programme does not have any Governmental help and it only aims those who were into preservation and protection of the environment. Hence the course fee is $1,000 for each student.

``We will encourage students to cook and eat organic food and examine the value of indigenous knowledge, Third World freedom and dignity through biodiversity conservation as an alternate sustainable system of existence,'' Dr. Shiva said. The programmes make use of international faculties, field trips, college camps and much creative and constructive effort. The school area of eight acres will also function as a biodiversity conversation park.
