According to Flippo, "Collective bargaining is a process in which the representatives of labour organisation and the representatives of business organisation meet and attempt to negotiate a contact or agreement which specifies the nature of the employee-employer-union relationship."

According to Dale Yoder, "Collective bargaining is essentially a process in which employees act as a group in seeking to shape conditions and relationships in their employment."

In short, collective bargaining is a process to protect the interests of the employers and employees to determine the employment conditions, to fix the wage and salary and achieve the objectives of the organisation. The process of collective bargaining process is very tough. It presupposes the existence of a strong and independent trade union movement, for bargaining is always between two equally strong parties.
