What are the various causes that leads to Industrial accidents?

Accidents are usually the result of a combination of factors, each one of which may vary from situation to situation. An accident does not have a single cause but a multiplicity of causes, which are often closely related. According to safety experts, there are three basic causes or factors that contribute lo accidents in organisations.
1. Unsafe Conditions of Work Related Causes—Such causes are associated with defective plants, equipment, tool, materials, buildings etc. These causes include:
(i) Improperly guarded equipment
(ii) Defective equipment
(iii) Hazardous arrangement or procedure around machines
(iv) Unsafe storage, congestion and overloading
(v) Inadequate safety devices
(vi) Wrong and faulty lay out and bad location
(vii) Improper illumination—glare, insufficient light
(viii) Improper ventilation
(ix) Poor house-keeping
(x) Nature of job
(xi) Work schedules
(xii) Psychological climate of work place.
2. Unsafe Acts—These acts may be the result of lack of knowledge or skill on the part of the employee. these acts include:
(i) Operating without authority
(ii) Failing to secure equipment or warning other employees of possible danger
(iii) Failing to use personal safety equipment
(iv) Throwing materials on the floor carelessly
(v) Operating or working at unsafe speeds
(vi) Using unsafe procedures
(vii) Using unsafe equipments
(viii) Lifting improperly
(ix) Teasing, abusing, horseplay etc.
3. Other Causes—These causes arise out of unsafe situations and climate conditions and variations. They include :
(i) Bad working conditions
(ii) Rough and slippery floors
(iii) Behaviour of dominating supervisors
(iv) Carelessness in handling dangerous materials
