Transmission with the help of spoken words is a common system of communication. In oral communication both parties of the process exchange their ideas through oral words either in face-to-face communication or through any mechanical device such as telephone etc. Meetings, lectures, conferences are some other media of such communication.
Advantages of Oral Communication
The following are the main advantages of oral communication:
1. It saves time and money.
2. It gives personal touch and therefore, is more effective.
3. It helps in greater understanding, thoughts are spontaneously cleared, enquiries answered and clarified, making the communication easy and simple.
4. The communicator knows immediately the reaction of the recipient.
Disadvantages of oral Communication
But oral communication suffers from following disadvantages:
1. In most of the cases the impact of oral communication is temporary.
2. It may be less accurate, and being informal, may carry less weight.
3. It is unsuitable if long and clear communication is intended.
4. No thinking is possible in this type of communication. Spontaneous decision is to be taken by the recipient.
5. The past relationship between the communicator and recipient comes in the way of effective oral communication.
