(1) To issue orders and instructions to the subordinates placed under him.
(2) To prescribe work methods, procedures and schedules, and to effect improvements therein as required.
(3) To take steps to see that jobs placed under his care do not breed a feeling of boredom or monotony among the subordinates.
(4) To interview candidates for the jobs under him. In fact, his recommendation puts the final seal of approval on the selection of candidates for the jobs under him.
(5) To provide induction training to the persons newly appointed under his charge.
(6) To provide training to his subordinates to improve their skills and proficiency.
(7) To enforce discipline.
(8) To communicate new ideas and information to his superiors and managerial policies, programmes and decisions his subordinates.
(9) To search for ways and means to reduce the costs of operations in his section.
(10) To act as the most effective link between the management and workers. It is through him that management seeks to accomplish its basic objectives and promote good human relations. Again it is he who communicates his subordinate's suggestions and grievances to the management.
