US Company Plans Varsity in association with AP Govt

US-based Sylvan Learning Systems Inc, plans to set up a "Technology University" in Andhra Pradesh. 250 acres have been cleared by the Government for this purpose in Hyderabad under a recently signed MoU between Government of AP and the company. Sylvan International--a Dutch Multinational and wholly-owned subsidiary Sylvan Learning Systems Inc is doing the works in India for the parent company. Hotel Management and Information Technology will be the Key areas in the proposed varsity

GM Infotech-Bieber Consultancy

GM info tech & systems, a leading training firm based in Chennai has announced its strategic alliance with Bieber Consultancy, a German owned Corporation. They will start several new courses including nine-month long master in Animation. The ventures try to use unexploited opportunities in the entertainment industry

Rediff.com joined hands with Aptech Limited to launch a '2 million scholarship programme'. Aptech will utilize the student profiles through rediff portal spanned over the country. Aptech students will get networked with all its national centers through the programme

Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and schoolnet India Ltd jointly announced academic diagnostic testing service, 'Checkpoint India'. The proponents claim that the programme raised promising response this year. CIE is the international assessment division of University of Cambridge, UK.

TANITEC dissolves in Anna University

Chennai based Tamil Nadu Institute of Information Technology is to be merged with Anna University. The university would absorb all faculty and staff of Tamil Nadu Institute of Information Technology which would dissolve itself as a corporate entity under Sec. 25 of the Companies Act.

SRM-NEC

The NEC Electronics, Singapore has signed an agreement with SRM Engineering College to promote awareness and application of NEC's V850 family of single chip micro-controller in India. NEC Electronics is a subsidiary of NEC Corporation, Japan. The evaluation kit given to the college amounts $10,000 and it is the first college level tie-up of NEC in India.

AICTE-Sun Microsystems joins for java training

The AICTE has signed a MoU with Sun Microsystems to open java training center across the country
"The six-month certification programmes in Java technology will be offered at one third the cost charged by private institutes." said Dr L.K. Bhatt, AICTE adviser. The programme is named as C-NANCE (Centre for National Academic Network for Continuing Education) The course contents would be oriented according to market needs. The two-hour modules will be conducted thrice a week and the certification awarded by Sun Microsystems, under the aegis of C-NANCE.
The AICTE move is a follow-up to Ministry of Human Resource Development decision, requesting AICTE to draft guidelines to regulate non-formal education in the country. The programme aims to encourage industry participation. The core idea behind the venture was to utilise existing educational facilities available in identified institutions.
