Political Groups manipulating the Educational Content- Amartya. "There is a danger that some political groups may manipulate the educational content and curriculum in schools for subversive purposes. Openness of curriculum and a secular and inclusive approach that cultivates reasoning and scrutiny can be central to the role of education to promote human security". Dr Amartya sen said while addressing the media after a two-day workshop on "Education Equity and Social Security" conducted by UNICEF and Harvard University. He deprecated the Central Governments move to impart religious values in the primary school curriculum. He opined in such a system there are chances of developing a bigoted attitude in the children based on religion, moreover such a manipulation of curriculum by the political groups will not bring in any good. He also described terrorism as a minor threat while comparing to the lack of education. He said the death poll of the world trade centre crash will be meagre if compared with the number of people died with AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria and other fatal diseases on Sept.11. |
