ERNET India and UGC signed Memorandum of Understanding on technology partnership in networking

ERNET India, under Department of Information Technology, and UGC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for establishing a nationwide network through technology in order to facilitate higher education.

As per the MoU, both the parties, UGC and ERNET India, would become technology partners and have a long term commitment to meet the aspiration of educational community in the country.

IT Department had already formulated a programme, Gyan Vahini for upgradation of IT infrastructure at higher learning instituions in the country, adding that in this regard UGC and IT Department have initiated a process and planned intra and internet network for Indian universities and colleges affiliated to them.

As part of the MoU, UGC and IT Department would set up nation-wide network and provide access to Universities and upgrade the IT infrastructure within each university for extending access to the institution's department and also affiliated colleges.

Students in remote institutes would be able to receive lectures by scholars held at remote places.

The network would cater to any media - satellite, terristrial or radio etc., to suit the users.

ERNET would use its terrestrial backbone, satellite and radio channels to provide broadband connectivity for institutions.
